To quickly recap, this allows you to use your device’s lock onto the Messenger app itself. This means once your phone is unlocked via passcode, facial or fingerprint recognition, you’ll have to do so again for the Messenger app. Facebook says it is rolling this feature out for iPhones and iPads today. Android devices will get support at a later date, but no exact date was given for this.
At the same time, the social media company is also working on new controls for the Messenger app. This involves setting who can message or call you directly, who goes into your request folder, and who can’t contact you at all. This will bring the Messenger up to speed with Instagram which already has this. Since these features are still in development, it will be awhile before they are rolled out. Facebook says it will share more information on this as it starts testing these controls. But with no indication as to when that will be either, it’s probably best to not hold your breath for it.
