Before this, Malaysians are only allowed to travel overseas if the reason matches the criteria set by the Immigration Department of Malaysia under MTP. Among them includes individuals who have received an offer to study or work abroad, candidates that have to sit for examinations, business meetings & seminars, emergency cases, holders of Partner or Fiancée Visa (unregistered marriage), humanitarian aid missions, and a permanent resident or long-term pass holder of another country.
Even though Malaysians are now free to travel overseas including for tourism purposes, they still have to follow all the existing SOPs that the government has imposed on travellers. For example, one must go through the mandatory quarantine period of 14 days once they come back to Malaysia. At the moment, Malaysians are also required to perform the COVID-19 RT-PCR test three days before they depart from their destination. In addition to that, they also need to submit the Home Quarantine Application around seven to ten days before they are scheduled to arrive back in Malaysia. (Image: RTM live stream.)
