Not only that, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has also successfully established Spider-Man as one of the leading men of the Avengers going forward — a new Iron Man if you will. So, to suddenly remove him from the MCU is a disappointment indeed. However, it looks like Tom Holland, the actor who currently plays the web-slinger remains optimistic about Spidey’s future in Sony’s hands. In an interview with GQ, Holland said:
I love that Tom Holland has chosen to remain optimistic and professional about the whole situation (though, I don’t think he has a choice). I only hope that Sony delivers the goods. Sony produces and distributes plenty of great films each year. 2018 saw the release of Sicario 2, Only the Brave, Roman J. Israel Esq, Searching and the Oscar-winning animated feature, Into the Spider-Verse. It’s just that for whatever reason, they haven’t been able to churn out good Spider-Man films since Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 back in 2004. As far as quality is concerned, Spider-Man 3 was a huge letdown, The Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2 are mediocre at best and Venom was nothing but a complete disaster. Sony will have to step up their game big time with Tom Holland’s Spidey, now that Kevin Feige isn’t going to be involved creatively anymore.
